8. ma bes advice

Settle down, little ones.
It's time for
Uncle TK's once-in-a-lifetime
Advice-thingy Kiosk.

What advice do you need ?
Hah.
Asking the audience for a reply ?
Fat chance.
I don't really have much advice.
Well.
Maybe it's because no on ever asked for my advice before.
Advice that ISN'T work-related.

Hmmm...
Let's see if I can think of anything.

*Goes raiding the refrigerator while listening to Glee's cover of Hall of Fame*

After much dillydallying,
I have decided to not give any advice.
NOT because I'm lazy,
but I just don't know what advice to give.
Besides,
what kind of a person would I be if I gave you an advice
that even I don't follow.
I know I'm a hypocrite.
Everyone is.
So I'll stay shut.

But there is a quote I'd like to share.
AGAIN.
Wow, I can't get over that.
This one is from one of the China Education documentaries
that I found on Youtube.
The documentary revolved around the lives of 5 students
at one of China's top high schools.
Needless to say, competition to get into uni is insane.
All 5 students wanted to get into either one of 2 top universities in China.
One boy took an earlier Maths Olympiad and scored high enough
to study Maths at one of the universities.
He could skip the University Entrance Exam.
He made it !
Another boy scored higher than he had anticipated
but still couldn't get into the top uni.
He went on to study business at a 'highly-respected college'.
He didn't make it.
One girl went on to study Tax Law at a People's Uni.
She didn't make it.
Another girl scored lower than she thought and will be doing
Financial Management at a second-tier school.
She didn't make it.
Finally, class monitor (female) is the only one who scored well enough
in her university entrance exam to get into the top uni.
She will be studying Journalism at Beihang University.
SHE MADE IT !

And because she made it,
the producers decided to do a little scene with her.
Where the camera slowly revolves around her in slow motion,
while she stares upwards at the city lights all around her.
Just standing there.
Staring.
While people around her are just walking and passing by.
And this is what she had to say,
(In Chinese of course. But they lowered her voice and placed English dubs)

"When I was studying so hard,
I felt the most important thing was freedom.
You can't demand freedom from the society, your school or even your own family.
You must rely on yourself to find your freedom.
If you can set your own heart free,
then nothing can stop you."

I think that can double as a quote AND good advice,
don't you think ?
I think it's pretty good.
I mean after watching an hour-long documentary
of kids studying their heads off,
it really makes you wonder where their motivations come from.
Quite inspirating.
I know I know,
it's calling inspiring.
But I like inspirating better !

7. frioooops

MKR has ended.
The storms have rolled in.
Disappointingly declining grades have showed themselves.
The end is nigh.

Today I'm gonna be talking about things that I'm afraid of.
Oh boy.
I should've used the 'snake' post for this topic.
Haha.
That's what you get when you don't do your reading in advance.

But then again,
the chances of snakes actually getting into your room is close to impossible.
Or is it ?
That's not the point.
What I'm trying to say is.
Perhaps something more realistic would be a much better thing to be afraid of.
Let's say....
Hmmmm.....
Failing Year 12 and getting crappy ATAR ?
Yes that sounds like a very possible future.
One that I should be very afraid of.
More emphasis on the 'verys'.
If I don't study hard enough,
then I think what I'm fearing most,
will come true, indefinitely.

The worse part is ATAR.
I'm still new to this whole ATAR business,
so I'll try to explain it.
Regardless of how misguided and wrong I am.
ATAR is a Australian ranking system.
It's used for getting into uni.
So unlike CGPAs,
students actually get a number
ranging between (somewhere near) 0 and (somewhere near) 100.
Yes.
So that means no one can get 0 or 100.
I think the highest you get is 99.95 or something like that.

How it works (which I don't know) is,
they take the top 4 subjects you're taking.
It goes through scaling,
compared to other student's score.
Do this for every subject.
Balance it all.
Do some weird calculation.
Get an ATAR score a.k.a rank.
So if you're ATAR is 80.
(haha. no more 3 credits minimum left !)
That means you're smarter than 80% of the kids in your state.
General ATAR requirements for uni is 70 and for the harder courses, 80.
Studying interstate would require an even higher ATAR,
going as high as 90.
Naturally, if you want to be a doctor,
you'll need AT THE SUPER VERY VERY LEAST
an ATAR of 98+.

Yes. Right now.
I need an ATAR of at least 80.
You'll need a little bit higher for a secured place.
Despite my Maths handicap,
I really want to get the course I want.
And not waste another year,
just to do an additional Maths course.
Problem is.
I can't even estimate my own ATAR right now.
I've had no official exams yet.
They can't even make a forecast yet.

I think my grades are declining.
very VERY slowly.
Which kinda worries me.
I don't think I have enough time for every subject.
omg I can't even think about those students who have
double Maths, chem, phy and english subjects to juggle.

So. Yeah.
What I'm afraid of the most now is my ATAR.
Mid-sems are actually coming in 4 weeks time.
Or was it 3 ?
Ughhh....

Another related thing I'm afraid of
is forgetting what I already learned.
Yes, I do admit I am doing fairly well in school now
(with aforementioned drop in grades)
but when I look back at the tests that I did.
I go.
'Wait, I knew that answer ? How DID I do it ?'
That does happen once in a while.
And it's actually worrying me.
What if I don't have enough time
or if I just have too many things to cram for exams ?
I wouldn't have time to go,
"Oh. Yes this question has to be done like this.
Not using the usual method."
would I ?

There was this man who I partnered up with for my first Physics experiment.
He told the teacher after class finished
"I haven't been in uni for almost 8 years.
I didn't get a single thing I see.".
In short, he's (kinda) lost.
How I used to see it was like
"Oh. You went to uni. You even did engineering.
That should be great motivation for you !
At least, you know you can do it.
You already did it once."
Yes, that was my mentality when I met him.
But now,
this evening,
to be more specific,
I went
"What if I can't make it ?
I fail to reach the standards that I unknowingly
made for myself (the previous test scores).
WHAT IF I DON'T MAKE IT *jumps*".
Yes, that's really what I'm thinking now.
By the way,
Mr I-haven't-been-to-school-in-8-years
dropped Physics the following week.
And we never saw him again.
He's still taking Chemistry though.
Good for him !

Yep.
I think those are the things
that I am afraid of.
Boring academic stuff.
Think the 'snake' was a better one ?

6. what to do

Please don't take my title the wrong way.
I'm not talking politics.
But since I'm already here,
might as well complain a bit.
I mean,
I DID keep my mouth all zipped up on Facebook.
And this is my blog.
So lemme rant.... #puppyface.

I can't believe BN is such a *insert unreadable words*.
I mean this.
Quite honestly.
Unlike most of you,
I was actually quite gullible and naive.
Literally.
I mean,
I've learnt that nothing can be perfect.
The same applies for our Government.
But I truly believed that OUR Government
had at least an ounce of decency and integrity.
(Wow PLKN was effective !)
But now, it's all gone.
My tiny 19 (but actually 4) year old world went crashing down.
"The sky is FALLING !"
Haha yea right.
But seriously.
Malaysia is practically Atlantis now.
Any second now.

You turn off our lights.
I'm still OK.
(well, mostly 'cuz I still have current over here)
You use immigrants for voting ?
AND YOU LET THEM SIT ON MY PRECIOUS AIRASIA !?
***** just don't know when to shut up.

Another totally unrelated thing.
I found other favourite quotes !
I actually remembered this one because of the election.
It was from Valkyria Chronicles.
Never heard of it ?
That's the point of the game.
Now I can't remember the exact line, so.....
"Those who control the power are the ones who write history."
Which is kinda true.
Given what's been happening with the election lately.
I mean,
obviously the Government used their resources and authorities
to manipulate the direction of the election to their favour.
That sounds pretty dirty to me.
Now I know how those people in the game felt.
Woohoooho, someone must've hated their Government.
Which is exactly what happened.
A civil war broke out in the sequel,
Valkyria Chronicles II.

Back to the main topic of the day.
If I couldn't use my job,
how would I answer the question.
"What do you do ?"

Ummm....
Well.
This is hard.
Were these questions designed to give me a hard time ?
I know I always end up blogging crap,
but it's good practice to build habit, right ?

Let's see.
I live life and see things.
I am an observer, I am a follower.
I am the loyal dog that follows you around
because you smell good.
Woahhhh.
Going off topic.

Let's see.
I do what everyone does.
I wake up.
I sleep.
I eat.
I...........excrete....
I study.
To get good grades.
I (WANT TO) get good grades.
To get a good career.
I live my life.
The way I like it.
Haters be hatin'.

What do you do ?
What do you do ?
WHAT DO YOU DO !?
HOW DO YOU DO !?
I am fine.
How about you ?

5. your affection

Publicly profess your love and devotion for one of your blogger friends. What makes them great? Why do you love them? If you don't have blogger friends, talk about a real-life friend or even a family member.

That is today's topic.
Gah.
I just can't choose.
I have no favourites.
Well, actually I do.
But it wouldn't be very nice to tell everyone about.

Well, actually I love all my blogger friends.
In fact, I love all bloggers.
Looking at them type away
restores my faith in our current non-Tumblr-using generation.
Haha.
I know I'm evil.
But I just feel Tumblr deserves its own word.
Perhaps, tumblring.
Or something like that.
Just like how we 'blog'.
I mean I can see quite a big gap between blogging and using Tumblr as a blog.
Sharing photos on your blog can be exciting,
but I just don't think its really blogging.
No offense,
please don't come and kill me.

So back to the actual topic.
Yes, I love all my blogger friends.
I love reading their blogs.
Every post is like another dive deeper into their lives.
Their tiny little lives which I will soon know EVERYTHING about.
Muhahahaha.
Ahem.
Well, all I can say is.
I look forward to all of your wonderful blogposts.
Rich in personal information....
*hiss*

Ok.
So how about I talk about someone else.
A real life friend.
Who doesn't have a blog.
And it's a HE.
OMGGASP.
It's none other than....
KENTTT-chan !!!!!
Time to profess my love and devotion to him.
I think he's a great friend.
Definitely a very interesting man.
He's not evil,
he's just misunderstood...sometimes.
And I think he's an extremely loyal friend.
So that's a gain for me =D
Woah !
Now I sound like a manipulative bas***d.
Hehe.
Silly me.
What am I doing.

Sowi.
This is just too serious for my blog.
Profess my love ?
No thanks.
I'd rather blog about what I had for lunch.
Which is Nando's chicken.
There you have it !
My lunch.
I hope you had a fun time reading !
See you tomorrow !

4. quotes

Haha.               (that's a weird way to start. DON'T ASK !)
Today I'm supposed to share my favourite quote.
And why.

But you know what ?
I don't have any favourite quotes.
Heck, I don't even remember any quotes.
Yes yes,
this proves to all of you
just how little I read.
Or even watch TV.

So yeah !
Today's blog post will be completely empty.
Empty.
EMPTY.

Well there IS that one quote from
Naruto Shippuden.
It was when
Naruto was about Rasengan (did I spell it right ?)
Pain.
He said
"Give up...on trying to make me give up."
I sorta like that line.
Well, enough to remember it.
Other than that the show has been hopelessly immersed in this whole
"I want peace" philosophy.

Oh !
There's also another one from the show.
"You are only looking at a tree, not the whole forest."
When Pain was trying to capture Naruto.
MAN I LOVE PAIN !
Oh ! In case you don't know,
Pain's a guy.
I'd rather share pictures of his
hot and excessively pierced body on my blog.
The first time I saw him.
Nightmares found its way into my happy brain.
Well,
it only lasted for one night though.
So meh....

I guess that's all I have to talk about for today.
Happy look-at-your-parents-go-for-the-elections-while-I-just-mind-my-own-business tomorrow !

3. ewww go away

Before I begin :
Dear Bry,
I am flattered that you took the time
to either :

1) Count every single word in my "1st of May" blogpost with your cute lil' fingers.

or

2) Copy the whole blogpost. Fire up a new tab. Type in 'Google' into your URL bar. Type in 'word counter' into Google. Click the first link that appears. Paste my post into the space given.

just to find out whether I went pass the 250 word limit.
However,
you aren't suppose to include
Paragraph 4,5 and 6
if you wish for a valid number of words.
You should also skip
Paragraph 4,5 and 6
if you wish to skip meaningless cr*p.
I was cranky...and sick.

Ok.
Today's topic would be a list of things that make me UNCOMFORTABLE.
As in icky icky things.
Well, the topic is quite loosely-based.
So I'll just type whatever comes into my mind.

Things that are my reality high octane nightmare fuel.
Number one.
Snakes !
That's right.
Snakes.
As featured in the thriller movie,
Snakes on a Plane.
I mean.
My house isn't really the safest place when it comes to
reptilian invasions.
My maid or dad would sometimes (SOMETIMES) find
a snake crawling around the front yard.
And they'll have to kill it.
There was even one time
where a cunning little snake actually making it's way into my house
and crawling around the first floor like it owns the place.
Dad kill it.
'nuff said.

The movie "Snakes on a Plane"
definitely made this fear even worse.
I remember the first (and only) time I watched it was on HBO.
It started at midnight
and ended around 2.
Everyone was already asleep.
I couldn't go to bed.
So I stayed up watching Guardians.
or something like that.
It's about sea rescues or something.
And then I finally had the guts to walk to my bedroom.
And go to sleep.
With the lights on.
Curtains closed.
Air conditioner MAX.
The next morning felt like a terrible hangover.

It's just really creepy.
Snakes can be really small.
They can always crawl into your house through the
bottom of your door and just
crawllll up your stairs.
Into your room and eat you to death.
And it has around 8 hours to do so.
Doesn't really sound so hard once it puts its mind to it,
don't you think ?

Well, that's my fear(s ?).
There was another Ultraman-inspired fear for mushrooms.
Yes, I don't eat mushrooms.
Don't scare me please.
But I'll leave that for next time.
